Within a few years, the Perfumes division began outselling the Accessories division. The newly-founded wholesaling business had brought the once-exclusive brand to over a thousand stores in the United States alone with the GAC line, deteriorating the brand’s standing with fashionable customers. "In the 1960s and 1970s," writes Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, "Gucci had been at the pinnacle of chic, thanks to icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Jacqueline Onassis. But by the 1980s, Gucci had lost its appeal, becoming a tacky airport brand."
Soon, cheap knockoffs of gucci wares had appeared on the market, further tarnishing the Gucci name. Meanwhile, infighting was taking its toll on the operations of the company back in Italy: Rodolfo and Aldo squabbled over the Parfums division, of which Rodolfo controlled a meager 20% stake. Meanwhile, when Paolo Gucci, Aldo's son, proposed a cheaper version of the brand called 'Gucci Plus' in 1983 he fell out with the family. There was a boardroom fight which ended in fisticuffs, and Paolo was reportedly knocked senseless by a telephone answering machine in the hand of one of his brothers. In return he reported his own father for tax evasion to the United States revenue, and Aldo was convicted and imprisoned on the testimony of his own son. By now, the outrageous headlines of gossip magazines generated as much publicity for Gucci as its designs.
Rodolfo’s death in 1983 caused a major shakeup in the company when he left his 50% stake in Gucci to his son, Maurizio Gucci. Maurizio allied with Aldo’s son Paolo to gain control of the Board of Directors and established the Gucci Licensing division in the Netherlands for this purpose. Following the decision, the rest of the family left the company and, for the first time in years, one man was at the helm of Gucci. Maurizio sought to bury the fighting that had torn the company and his family apart and turned to talent outside of the company for Gucci’s future.

In 1938,Gucci expanded and a boutique was opened in Rome. Guccio was responsible for designing many of the company's products. In 1947, Gucci introduced the bamboo handle handbag, which is still a company mainstay. During the 1950s, Gucci also developed the trademark striped webbing, which was derived from the saddle girth, and the suede moccasin with a metal horsebit. His wife Aida Calvelli had a large family, though only the sons-Vasco, Aldo, Ugo, and Rodolfo-would play a role in leading the company. After Guccio's death in 1953, Aldo helped lead the company to a position of International prominence, opening the company's first boutique in New York. Rodolfo initially tried to start an acting career as a matinee idol but soon returned to help direct the company. Even in Gucci's fledgling years, the family was notorious for its ferocious infighting. Disputes regarding inheritances, stock holdings, and day-to-day operations of the stores often divided the family and led to alliances.cheap gucci shoes Gucci expanded overseas, board meetings about the company's future often ended with tempers flaring and luggage and purses flying. Gucci targeted the Far East for further expansion in the late 1960s, opening stores in Hong Kong and Tokyo. At that time, the company also developed its famous GG logo (Guccio Gucci's initials), the Flora silk scarf (worn prominently by Hollywood actress Grace Kelly), and the Jackie O shoulder bag, made famous by Jackie Kennedy, the wife of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Gucci remained one of the premier luxury goods establishments in the world until the late 1970s, when a series of disastrous business decisions and family quarrels brought the company to the verge of bankruptcy. At the time, brothers Aldo and Rodolfo controlled equal 50% shares of the company, though Rodolfo contributed less to the company than Aldo and his sons did. In 1979, Aldo developed the Gucci Accessories Collection, or GAC, intended to bolster the sales for the Gucci Parfumes sector, which his sons controlled. GAC consisted of small accessories, such as cosmetic bags, lighters, and pens, which were priced at considerably lower points than the other items in the company's accessories catalogue. Aldo relegated control of Parfums to his son Roberto in an effort to weaken Rodolfo's control of the overall operations of the company.Gucci Evening Frame Bag And Gucci Large Boston Bag The Gucci Evening Frame Bag is the definition of purse sophistication. The bag comes with chain straps, a push-lock closure, the circular Gucci charm on the outside, and an inside pocket ,which must be very small by the look of things. The dimensions are 7.7 x 1 x 4.5 inches. Unfortunately for me, my wallet, and my man, I of course drew a liking to the most expensive version of this bag. Hey, what can I say- it’s a skill. The bag that features dark grey metal fringes and silver hardware will most likely make you cringe at the price tag: $5950 .all I can say is good thing they didn’t round up to $6000. Gasp! How I wish I could have this bag! There is also a version with black suede with black baroque embroidery, black lizard trim, and silver hardware which goes for $1595. Next a version with black tulle and black crystals with silver hardware which costs $1950. And lastly the bag can be done in dark blue velvet with black flower embroidery and silver hardware for the cheapest of them all $1195. If I had my choice, I’d still pick the expensive metal one .if my father is reading this he is shaking his head with a big YES and giving me- through the computer- that look I get. The “What have I done wrong you can’t afford that look”. All of these evening beauties are available through Gucci for their various prices. While looking at this bag, Vlad’s first comment was, “Why is that picture in black and white?Nice to see that I turned him into such a fashion guru. I had to inform him that the colors were indeed the color the bag was meant to be. I think it’s stunning. After my first year of Girl Scouts , we got to take an end of the year trip to go horse back riding. I was ecstatic. But a few little problems arose. First, my horse was by far the biggest horse out there since I was very tall. Secondly, my over-powering horse decided to get spooked and scared all the other horses- which in turn bucked some of the girls off of their horses. And thirdly, I was allergic to that sucker. But nevertheless, I loved the experience. I wanted my own horsey, like most little girls, and I would not give up on bugging my dad about getting one. I never did get that horse. I’m still a little bitter to this day. But since I never got that pony, I will allow my father to make it up to me by buying me this Gucci Large Boston Bag. This fall bag by Gucci is absolutely gorgeous. The bag is beige horsebit velvet with violet/mandarin/violet signature web and buckle detail. The horsebit detail in the velvet really makes the beauty of the bag’s design stand out and grab attention. The dimensions are 11″H x 16″W x 5 1/2″D. Being a Gucci bag, the price is of course a bit high. This bag runs for $1,990.00 through Neiman Marcus .Gucci Log Carrier Gucci Ostrich Hobo Paris Hilton's Larg I do not know what we would do without sales!!! And a sale from Gucci nonetheless. Here is the clincher. It's for a totally off the wall product. Think hard about what you would associate Gucci with. Now tell me if what you thought of was the Gucci Log Carrier. If you answered no, you are totally normal like the rest of us. If you actually said, "Why yes Megs! That is exactly what I was thinking of!" well then you are really way too cool for me. I'm just really wondering who would want to carry hunks of dirty wood in a log carrier made by Gucci. What astonishes me even more is the mental picture of people carrying wood, dirty insect-filled wood, to their fireplaces in a Gucci log carrier. But like I always say whatever floats your boat. If you have the money and Gucci is your style, then why not? The log carrier is 33.5 x 21.5 inches so it can fit most of your log needs . The outside is made of brown/black laser GG logo with black leather trim and suede interior. Ok, wow. Who needs to let their logs touch suede?? Well if I have not sold you on this 'bag' yet, here comes the clincher. Marked down from $1350 the suede wood carrier is now only $539 at Gucci. Another pearl that we stumbled upon in the Bal Harbour Gucci store was the Gucci Medium Hobo that had just been released to the public eye and isn't even available on their official site yet. The shape accords the pictured fuchsia ostrich hobo, the material was different. Its leather was entirely covered with their new horsebit emboss and came in either a darker brown shade or more of a burgundy red. Completed was the gorgeous $1080 hobo with single strap, zip-top closure, bamboo ring details, bamboo ornament zipper pull, embossed Gucci script logo on strap, studs, and an inside zip pocket. Megs fell in love immediately, but had to pull out of a possible impulse buy once reality settled back in. We will try to hunt down a picture of the gorgeous leather and report on it later. In the meanwhile, I would really recommend the pictured Gucci Ostrich Hobo. The bag is currently on sale from almost $4k down to $2,300 and available directly through Gucci. I got a little touchy with the bag and was positively surprised about the supple and soft appeal of the quality ostrich leather. If you dig pink and have a thing for feathered bird leather, grab it while it's hot! Many times Paris has been seen toteing around the Gucci Large Boston Bag. The bag has white leather with Blue/Red/Blue signature web and light gold hardware. The unmistakable Gucci logo is jumping out at you saying "You wish you had me this big on your bag too". Unfortunately, this bag is hard to find right now. I see it only being offered on ebay. Gucci is selling the different but also Medium Boston Bag for Spring ‘05 in ostrich skin with leather trim. The bag includes an inside zip pocket and of course pigskin suede lining. The Large Boston Tote must really be large since this Medium Boston tote is measuring about 7 1/2"H x 16"W x 5"D. This bag runs around $3,900.00 which makes me think the hard to find Paris Hilton's Large Boston Bag would make your eyes tear at the price tag.gucci handbags you need Another pearl that we stumbled upon in the Bal Harbour Gucci store was the Gucci Medium Hobo that had just been released to the public eye and isn’t even available on their official site yet. It had appeared to us on several earlier occasions that employees of exclusive stores didn’t really seem to be too eager to consult a couple in the mid-20s about their newest and hottest items. We decided to give another approach a try. Megs’ mom was kind enough to let her daughter sport her horsebit hobo that she’s gotten a few weeks ago, and let me tell you — the store experience was slightly different. Let’s just say that Gucci does honor their recurring customer base. We did spend a good hour in there and we have particularly three bags in mind that require coverage today. As I mentioned last night, BH stores enjoy the presence of special limited items that others around the country just have to miss out on. One of these stores was Gucci and the item in focus was the Gucci Crocodile and Ostrich Patchwork Bag. It was showcased in its own window on the side of the store all by itself and was just glaring at us with handcrafted details and superb materials. The friendly salesman brought it out for us to inspect — in my opinion the best $22,700 spent *if* you have them to spend on a bag. The blonde crocodile and ostrich patchwork, along with the bamboo detail and the gold hardware on the strap make the bag’s bite match the bark. Fantastic! Talking about exclusivity, there are only 10 of these made worldwide, and we got to appreciate it in its gorgeous entirety. The picture I pulled off the Gucci page shows the right bag — however, the strap on the one that we saw was much longer than the one depited here. Personally, it was my first time getting touchy and feely with a $20k+ bag, but I do realize where the price tag comes from. The stitching was handcrafted with out-of-this-world perfection and the materials just felt so right. If you are a collector or someone who enjoys highly exclusive shoulder bags, you may want to give this creation a try. Gucci Logo Weave Shoulder Bag is Expensive, shiny, bamboo, gold, Gucci. Held in tan, brown and gold, this Gucci shoulder bag features the classic Gucci logo-weave canvas with leather accents and magnetic snap closure. A large bamboo shaped ring adornes the front, leather detailing appears in front and back and the double handle, gold-toned bamboo shaped chains measure approximately 15” in length. Dimensions: 13” wide x 8” tall x 1” base depth. Price: 2,239 dollar American.News for Monday 11 January, 2010
